An artificial blood vessel having the following characteristics: 1) having a n antithrombotic effect; 2) having a tissue affinity; 3) being rapidly convert ed into endothelium; and 4) allowing regeneration of host tissues; and a proces s for producing the same. The artificial blood vessel is one collected from a heterologous organism from which the cellular constituents of the blood vess el have been completely eliminated. The above process aims at producing this artificial blood vessel and involves the step of washing a blood vessel collected from a heterologous organism with a surfactant to thereby complete ly eliminate the cellular constituents of the blood vessel therefrom.
