The invention relates to a method for moving a movable vehicle part between at least two positions, wherein the vehicle part is driven by an electric motor (10), a pulse signal corresponding to the rotational movement of the electric motor (10) is generated and fed to a control unit (24) for controlling the electric motor (10) and the input time of each signal is detected in the control unit (24). Furthermore, a value for the change in engine speed is determined at given times from at least one fraction of said previously measured time, a force change value ( DELTA F*[k]) is calculated from each speed change value and at least one fraction of the previously determined force change value is added with a weight in order to determine a value for the momentary force effect on the movable vehicle part. Said value is used as a criterion for deciding whether or not the electric motor (10) should be disconnected or reversed. In calculating the force change value, for every speed change value exceeding a maximum threshold, the value of said maximum threshold is used instead of the speed change value.
