Absorbent product (1, 101, 201, 301, 401) such as an incontinence pad, sanitary pad, diaper, absorbent inlay or the like. The absorbent product has a central absorbent portion (2; 102; 202; 302; 402) with an upper permeable surface (11; 111; 211; 311; 411). The absorbent product also has a fluid-impermeable back sheet (9; 109; 240, 242; 309; 409). In order to provide width adaptation and to allow a basin-shape to be formed in the product, two lateral portions (17, 18; 117, 118; 217, 218; 317, 318; 417, 418) are provided. Each of the lateral portions extends in the longitudinal direction of the product. The inner edge (13, 14; 113, 114; 213, 214; 313, 314; 413, 414) is attached to the central portion by means of a surplus of material (x) and the outer edge (15, 16; 115, 116; 215, 216; 315, 316; 415, 416) is a free outer edge. The lateral portions can thus move in a lateral direction independently of the central portion.
