A differential motion conveyor (20) includes a cylindrical moving magnet linear motor (26) to drive a trough (21) into vibration to convey material. The linear motor (26) utilizes a compact, efficient and powerful design usin g an annular stator (100) which drives an armature (150). The armature (150) includes opposing shaft ends (34a, 34b) which are connected to either the trough (21) or to a conveyor base (22), or to a counterweight (42) depending on the conveyor (20) design, to drive the trough (21) into reciprocation to feed particles along the trough (21).
