APPARATUS FOR RETRIEVING CONICAL ROADWAY WARNING MARKERS

An apparatus (10) which automatically retrieves conical highway warning markers (34) from the roadway and transports the cones to a support vehicle for storage. The apparatus (10), which is attached to a vehicle, comprises a clamping plate (44) disposed at the end of a lifting arm (12), which clamps the base of the traffic cone (34) onto a platform (14). The lifting arm (12) then rotates to raise the cone (34) to a position for stowage. The raised cone (34) can then be manually removed from the lifting arm for stowage or, alternatively, dropped onto a conveyor system which transports the traffic cone to a storage area within the vehicle.
