The method involves maintaining two tables (60), one table contains an array of sequence numbers and the other containing an array of channel numbers. A sequence number from the first table is selected (70) using a table arrangement number and a subset counter, the channel number is then selected (72) using the sequence number and an index counter. The channel number is used with the subset counter to produce a selected frequency (74). Table arrangement numbers are unique for each base station in a cordless telephone system. The subset counter is derived to correspond to a transmission frequency subset and is incremented in every frame (78,80). The index counter is incremented once for every possible subset of frequencies. An Independent claim is included for a system for table implementing frequency selection in cordless telephone system.
