PURPOSE:To improve the compressing efficiency of a document picture with a half dot by providing a means which outputs a picture obtained by removing the half dot from the picture of an inputted document. CONSTITUTION:A registration picture is inputted by a registration picture input part 102 as a binary picture. A document format recognizing 108 analyzes the registration picture, and recognizes the format of a reiteration document by referring to the content of a document format characteristic storage part 106 which stores the characteristic of a reference document. The recognized result of the recognized format of the document is stored in a document format characteristic storage part 109. Then, a half dot removal processing part 110 outputs a binary picture obtained by removing the half dot from the registration picture, that is, a half dot removal picture. At that time, the half dot can be effectively removed by retrieving a reference picture corresponding to the recognized result of the document format recognizing part 108 from a reference picture storage part 107, and referring to the concentration and the number of lines of the half dot in the retrieved reference picture. Then, the half dot removal picture is encoded and stored by a half dot removal picture storage part 111. |
