PURPOSE: A defrosting method of a refrigerator is provided to completely remove the frost deposited on an evaporator by varying the defrosting cycle according to the amount of the frost deposited on the evaporator and by performing the optimum defrosting driving. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of:judging if the defrosting inrush is satisfied after setting up a first defrosting cycle of a refrigerator; driving after secondly setting up the defrosting cycle if it is not a defrosting mode according to the judged result of the defrosting inrush and returning to the step of judging if the defrosting inrush is satisfied; and defrosting the frost deposited on the evaporator by driving a defrosting heater for a certain time if the defrosting inrush is satisfied and setting up the defrost returning temperature and the defrosting cycle after detecting the latent heat period from the sensed temperature of a defrosting sensor.; Herein, the frost excessively deposited on the evaporator is removed effectively, and the cooling efficiency is improved. Thereby, the power consumption can be reduced.
