A safety system for total monitoring of a rail stretch and a rail vehicle travelling on it has several measurement circuits, closed in themselves and distributed in a decentralized fashion, communicating with each other and each having one or more measuring points with different measurement sensors. At these upon activation of the measurement circuits (1-3), actual values of differing parameters can be tapped off independently. There are one or more central control units of two sorts in which these actual parameters are compared with data profiles on set point parameters which are generated and stored for each section of the rail stretch with regard to their respective constructional properties and the operational properties of the rail vehicle (4) to be prevailing. All this is to allow a correct elapsed-time classification of the actual parameters for back-tracking a cause of a disturbance occurring not only in the course of the rail stretch but also on the rail vehicle so as to introduce corresponding control measures in real time.
