<p>An exercise machine includes a base frame 1, a pedal support 2, a front stem 6 supporting handles 72, a rear stem 8 supporting a seat 91 and a stepping device which comprises two pedal levers 3 linked to a rotating disc 5. A linkage mechanism between the pedal levers 3 and the rotating disc 5 comprises a pushing arm 33 at the end of each pedal lever 3 which is joined to a linkage 4 which has its other end attached to the rotating disc 5 by means of a universal joint. A damper 10 is positioned between the pedal support 2 and the rotating disc to provide friction when the disc rotates, The amount of friction provided may be varied by turning the adjustment screw 100. As the user steps up and down on the pedals, the pushing arm 33 moves the linkage 4 back and forth and rotates the rotating disc 5. This in turn rotates the front stem 6 and the handles 72 so that the waist and upper body of the user is exercised as well as the legs. The whole assembly may be dismantled for ease of storage or packing by undoing screws 62, 52, 15 and 12 and removing the handles 72, front and rear stems 6, 8 and front beam 11.</p> |
