PURPOSE: A method for controlling a field slow playback of a VTR is provided, which controls a slow playback using a moving amount of a field unit. CONSTITUTION: The method for controlling a field slow playback of a VTR comprises the steps of: (201)(202) judging as to whether a mode converts a still mode for composing a slow playback mode into a general playback mode; (203-205) operating a capstan motor at a certain speed when a mode is converted into the general playback mode in the judging steps (201)(202); (206) performing a speed control and a phase control of the capstan motor in the general playback mode; and (207-212) providing a brake voltage to the capstan motor after performing 1 field traveling of the speed control and the phase control. Thereby, it is possible to amend a picture tremble according to a kind of monitor.
