PURPOSE: A LCD and manufacturing method thereof is provided, which has an electrode structure for providing a horizontal electric field and a thin film transistor. CONSTITUTION: The manufacturing method comprises the steps of: forming a gate wire including a gate line (20), a gate electrode (21), and a gate pad (22) and common wires (10, 11) on a substrate (100); forming a gate insulating film (30) for covering the gate wire and common wires (10, 11); forming a semiconductor layer (40) and resistor contact layers (51, 52); forming a source and drain electrode on resistor contact layers (51, 52) and data wires (60-63) including a data line and a data pad and a pixel electrode (65) on the gate insulating film (30); and depositing a protecting film (70) on the pixel electrode (65) and data wires (60-63); covering a sensitivity resist on an upper portion of the protecting film (70); and forming an aperture portion to an asperity portion; and etching the protecting film (70) of the asperity portion. Thereby, it is possible to improve the mounting reliability.
