1,136,198. Thermistors. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 2 May, 1967 [16 May, 1966], No. 20157/67. Heading H1K. A thermistor is made by mixing powdered cobalt oxide (obtained by thermal decomposition of carbonate or acetate) and if desired, up to 1 mol. per cent of resistivity-modifier with an inert liquid vehicle, by applying the paste thus formed to a dielectric substrate, and by firing the assembly at 1250-1350‹ C. and cooling to room temperature. The liquid vehicle may consist of solvent(s), binder, and stabilizing solid. The paste may be applied by silk screening. All components of the liquid are burnt out during the soaking stage or sintering. Metallic lithium or silver may be added to the oxide powder to lower resistivity of the sinter. Resistivity may be caused by the inclusion of manganous oxide, nickelous oxide, or a ceramic containing lead zirconate, lead titanate and a vitreous frit. Electrodes may be applied by silk screening and firing and may be of platinum. |
