The material comprises an environmentally friendly polyethylene foam layer (5), a resilient (wood) fibreboard panel (4), a chipboard panel (3), first and second adhesive layers, a triplex wood laminate, and a solid wood surface layer. An intermediate flooring material for laying on an existing floor is capable of reducing noise by at least 12 dB and comprises the following layers: (a) environmentally friendly polyethylene foam layer; (b) resilient (wood) fibreboard panel; (c) chipboard panel; (d) first adhesive layer; (e) triplex wood laminate; (f) second adhesive layer; and (g) surface layer for walking on. Total thickness is at least 30 mm. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) a method of laying the intermediate flooring, by successively laying a moisture barrier layer, followed by layers (a-f) and a surface layer (g) of solid wood; and (ii) a mono-combi floor laid by this method.
