IMAGE ENCODING METHOD AND DEVICE

PURPOSE: An image encoding method and device with reference to MPEG(moving picture image coding experts group) are disclosed. CONSTITUTION: First, a forward prediction movement vector (a1) and its residual are detected with a forward prediction movement detection circuit (13) by using forward prediction reference block data read out of a reference frame memory (11) and retrieval block data read out of a retrieval frame memory (12), and stored in the forward prediction movement vector (a1) and residual storing memory. Then a backward prediction movement vector (b) and its residual are detected with a backward prediction movement detection circuit (14) by using a backward prediction reference block data read out of the reference frame memory (11) and the retrieval block data read out of the retrieval frame memory (12), the movement vector and its residual which are stored in the forward prediction movement vector and remnant storing memory are read out, and encoding is performed by using both the forward and backward movement vectors.
