摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine the characteristic of particle dispersion, particularly, particle size distribution by comparing an attenuation spectrum obtained by directing waves into a dispersion and measuring the attenuation of the waves to a specified frequency with a calculated attenuation spectrum. SOLUTION: Waves (ultrasonic waves, light or the like) are directed into a dispersed material, and the attenuation of the waves in a specified frequency is measured in order to provide an attenuation spectrum. In order to determine the particle size distribution corresponding to the measured attenuation spectrum, the measured attenuation spectrum is then compared with an attenuation spectrum calculated on the basis of the theory. For example, two pairs of wide band transducers 12, 14, 16, 18 are in contact with a sample arranged in a tank 20. A pair of transducers 12, 13 covers the low frequency range, and the other pair of transducers 16, 18 covers the higher range. Although the transmission transducers 12, 16 can be moved to different positions in a chamber 10, the receiving transducers 14, 18 are fixed.
