PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a picture data processing method capable of transmitting picture data even under another different picture format by executing decomposition into additional picture data including picture information, encoding it in accordance with a prescribed transmission standard, reducing data and connecting it to an additional data field. SOLUTION: Picture data to be supplied by the extended picture format is dissolved into first picture data corresponding to the unextended picture format and into additional picture data including picture information as against the extension of the picture format. The picture of the picture format being 16:9 generated by a camera is, especially, scaled to the 16:9 format of the extended QCIF or CIF picture. QCIF or CIF picture of 4:3 is extracted from the center of the 16:9 picture. A picture area left in the left and right of an extracted reference picture is encoded and transmitted by a GSPARE field. |
