PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electroluminescent element(EL) in which luminance can be increased and power consumption can be saved by preventing any degradation of the luminance caused by absorption of light emitted by a light emitter layer to a dielectric layer or a back electrode so as to enhance light reflecting efficiency onto a side of a transparent electrode. SOLUTION: In an EL 10 in which a back electrode 12, a dielectric layer 5, a light emitting layer 4 and a transparent electrode 3 are laminated in order on a base 7 and an AC voltage is applied between the back electrode 12 and the transparent electrode 3 so as to emit light, the back electrode 12 on at least a side in contact with the dielectric layer 5 is made of a conductive metal having a high reflectance and is finished to a mirror face 11.
