The closure 7 of a water tap, provided with a washer 8, is mounted on a spindle 9 which is non-rotatably displaceable through a nut 11 and is formed with a rack 10 on either side for engagement with a pair of worm-wheels 4 provided with pinions 3 at their upper ends which are rotated by engagement with teeth 14 formed in the interior of casing 13 whereby the valve is operated by rotation of handle 15 of casing 13 and continued rotation whereof at the termination of the closing movement displaces the worms 4 axially upwardly for locking engagement between tapered pivots 18, formed at the upper end of casing 1, and sockets 19 formed in the upper surface of the pinions 19. The worms 4 are retained in casing 1 by bolts 11<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 2, not shown) which extend through the casing to engage nut 11 and an adjustable stop 20 at the upper end of body 1 limits upwards movement of spindle 9. A domed lid 16 at the upper end of body 1 carries indicating means 17, e.g. for " hot " and " cold." With the exception of screws 11 and 20, the valve may be formed entirely of moulded synthetic resin. |
