PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an algorithm with a reliability for detecting a still area in the sequence of a video image by comparing a pixel difference value which is cumulatively added to a threshold and deleting the small group of an isolated still block and an adjacent still block. SOLUTION: In a first branch, analysis is executed concerning difference between two fields/frames (S12-S15). In the second branch, the thresholds are calculated, which are used for deciding which part of the image is still or not still (S16-S20). The thresholds are collected in corresponding memory positions (S21). Cumulatively added frame difference values APD are compared with the thresholds T concerning each block B (S22) in order to obtain the temporary map PM of the still area and the results are inputted to the memories (S23). The temporary map PM is changed and eroded by deleting the small group of the isolated still block or the adjacent still block in order to obtain the final map FM of the still area (S24). |
