PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain an accurate automatic fare adjustment even when a nonstandardized route is selected by comparing a calculated train utilizing time with a prescribed reference time and charging a train utilization amount based on the comparison result. SOLUTION: When a customer who got off a train and is leaving a wicket throws a ticket into an automatic ticket examination machine, a CPU 21 reads the entering time and the current leaving time of the customer which are recorded on the ticket and calculates the train utilizing time based on those read times. This calculated train utilizing time is compared with a prescribed reference time. If it is decided that the fare amount of the customer is short based on the comparison result, the short amount is charged to the customer and fare amount is automatically adjusted. Under such conditions, the shortest arrival time between stations A to E and a station F and the time necessary to pass each station are previously stored in a RAM 23, and the train utilization contents of the customer are checked by reading the entering time and the current leaving time recorded on the ticket when the customer leaves the wicket.
