PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable type image input device for storing image data in a memory card and for reading of high image quality. SOLUTION: For this image input device, when an original 8 is smaller than an original platen 2, the device is used as an installed type, a main body 1 is fixed and the original 8 is mounted on the original platen 2. Also, when the original 8 is larger than the original platen 2, the device is used as a moving read type, the main body 1 is turned over and mounted on the original 8, the read range of the original 8 is confirmed from a see-through part 3, an image processing part 5 converts the image data of the original 8 scanned into a scanning part 6 and read by a read part 4 to digital data and processes them, and the digital data processed in the image processing part 5 are stored in the memory card 7.
