A cosmetic composition suitable for topical application to the skin comprising: (a) a polyol carboxylic acid ester having a polyol moiety and at least 4 carboxylic acid moieties, wherein the polyol moiety is selected from sugars and sugar alcohols containing from about 4 to about 8 hydroxyl groups, and wherein each carboxylic acid moiety has from about 2 to about 30 carbon atoms, and; (b) an emollient material selected from compounds having formula (I) wherein R<1> is a C2-C13 straight or branched chain alkyl and R<2> is independently selected from a C1-C20 straight chain or branched chain alkyl, and; (c) a non-ionic thickening agent selected from polyacrylamide polymers, cross-linked poly(N-vinylpyrrolidones), and mixtures thereof. The compositions of the invention provide improved rheological, absorption and insulation properties in addition to good skin feel, skin softness and skin smoothness benefits. |
