PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform image processing on image data at high speed with simple constitution, and to perform highly flexible image processing. SOLUTION: In this image processing method, to the image data obtained by a line CCD and inputted through a selector, after performing an aberration correction processing corresponding to a lens used for recording images by a linear distortion aberration correction amount computing part 58 and linear magnification color aberration correction amount computing parts 60R and 60B in a main scanning direction, an electronic variable power processing for avoiding image omission accompanying aberration correction is performed by a linear electronic variable power processing part 62, and an effective image area is extracted by removing the area of the image omission from the image data by an effective image area extraction part 64. After tentatively storing the image data in a frame memory 142, by inputting them in a linear image processing part 54 in the state of rotating them by 90 deg., the respective processings are performed in a sub-scanning direction, and the image data are outputted after performing the other image processing. At this time, respective variable power rates in the main scanning direction and the sub-scanning direction in the electronic variable power processing are made different.
