PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily synthesize frame image data with high quality without unnatural interpolation mistake from one field image data. SOLUTION: A frame memory 102 of the image data interpolation device stores data by one frame extracted from a received video signal, pixel data corresponding to of a pixel on one scanning line of an odd number or an even number order of a frame are read from the memory 102 and discrete cosine processing is applied to the data. Data F (k, l) obtained by this processing are extended in a specific direction (the data are extended in a direction of increasing the l of the data F (k, l) by supplementing '0s' in the case of extension in the vertical direction, for example), and inverse discrete cosine transform is applied to the data obtained by this extension processing to generate image data of pixels to be interpolated.
