PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-accuracy photo detector element using the electron spin resonance(ESR) principle by sweeping a magnetic field while applying a fixed high frequency using (Pr, Ca)MnO3 material for a photo detecting part. SOLUTION: The photo detector element has a photo detecting part made of a (Pr, Ca)MnO3 material. A magnetic field is swept while applying a fixed high frequency to detect a faint light. The photo detector element has a light receiving part made of the (Pr, Ca)MnO3 material for receiving a light incident from at least an object to be measured and an ESR measuring unit for measuring the change of the electron spin of this material. The photo detector element performs a fixed magnetic field sweep to detect the spin resonance in this element and makes the ESR measurement of the electron spin on Mn3+ and Mn4+ ion sites of a Pr0.65Ca0.35MnO3 sample to measure the intensity of a faint light incident from the object.
