PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify an interface and hardware and to reduce a hourly loss by recording/reproducing the data with a defective block as it is when the defective block is found while realtime recording/reproducing and recording/ reproducing the data with the alternate block of the defective when the defective block is found while non-realtime recording/reproducing. SOLUTION: Whether or not a defective block exists is checked according to a command from a host while recording/reproducing the data. When the defective block is found, even though the defective block is either one of block sblkA sblkB registered in an SDL(Secondary defect List), or any of newly found defective block sblkG, the defective block as it is recorded/reproduced by realtime recording/reproducing. Thereafter, the positional information of the defective block is registered in an SDL entry at a proper time, and that the alternate operation is not performed yet is displayed on the entry.
