PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfactorily read an original by preventing deformation of an original reference member, when an opening/closing member is brought down while ensuring close contactness between the original reference member and an original placing part. SOLUTION: This image reader is provided with a conductive original placing part 5 for placing the original 4 and an insulating original reference member 6 close to it, they are supported by metallic frames 1 and 2 and the opening/ closing member 8 is provided, so as to be raised and brought down to the original placing part 5 and the original reference member 6. A grounding member 16 for blocking the deformation in a load direction A of the original reference member 6 is provided so as to be in contact with the original placing part 5, and the frame 1 at the position of receiving a load when the opening/closing member 8 occupies a brought-down position.
