PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To take out electric power from a power source with a high power factor by always maintaining a multiphase changeover type reluctance machine in a substantially conducted state in one or more phases by means of a power converter circuit. SOLUTION: Chopping can be made mainly by two methods. In the most simplest method, two switches, for examples, switches 71 and 72 coupled with a phase winding are simultaneously opened. As a result, energy is returned to a DC link from a machine in each 'chop'. This is also known as 'hard chopping'. In a substitutional method, only one of the switches, for example, the switch 71 is opened so that a current may freely circulate or flow through a loop composed of a winding 16, the other switch 72, and a diode 74. This is known as 'free wheel chopping'. In this control mode, no energy is returned to the DC link until each phase cycle ends. |
