PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gap material counter capable of correctly counting only the number of gap materials by surely excluding foreign matters from counting. SOLUTION: A reflection board 14 reflecting light from an illuminating means is arranged under a transparent substrate 1 and it seems as if an illuminating means exists also under the substrate 1 by the existence of the board 14. Thus, a light transmissive foreign matter 8 never floats even its contours, thereby only the number of the gap members can correctly be counted.
