摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nickel positive electrode with high utilization factor, good high rate discharge characteristics, and low cost without using an expensive three-dimensional metal porous body such as foamed nickel. SOLUTION: This nickel positive electrode is formed by supporting a mixture containing nickel hydroxide particles whose surfaces are covered with α type cobalt hydroxide, an auxiliary conductive material, and a binder on a two-dimensional structure current collector. The covering amount of the α type cobalt hydroxide is preferable to be 0.5-15 wt.% based on 100 wt.% nickel hydroxide particles whose surfaces are covered with the α type cobalt hydroxide. The αtype cobalt hydroxide covering the surface of the nickel hydroxide of the nickel positive electrode is converted into γ-cobalt oxyhydroxide by initial charging.
