PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a reflective display device which can be viewed even in dark surroundings. SOLUTION: A reflective display device is provided with a reflective liquid crystal panel 2, an illuminator 3, a liquid crystal panel 4 and a hologram scattering plate 5. Besides the illuminator 3 is constituted of a light guide plate 6, an edgelit hologram 7, a cold cathode fluorescent tube 8 and a reflection plate 9. A light emitted from the cold cathode fluorescent tube 8 is made incident, directly or after being reflected by the reflection plate 9, on an end face of the light guide plate 6 and propagates in the light guide plate 6 with total reflection. The propagated light is diffracted by the reflective edgelit hologram 7 and illuminates the reflective liquid crystal panel 2 as an illuminating light from a surface of the light guide plate 6. A scattered reflected light diffracted by the hologram scattering plate 5 is concentrated within a limited range of angle and realizes an extremely bright display within the range. |
