PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain sufficient overwrite characteristics even when the width of a magnetic pole is decreased. SOLUTION: An auxiliary layer 20 made of a magnetic material is formed on the vicinity of the edge on an air bearing face side of an insulating layer 11 which determines a throat height. Then, an upper magnetic pole layer 16 is formed on the auxiliary layer 20. By forming the auxiliary layer 20, the volume of the magnetic layer near the position where the throat height is zero is increased by the volume of the auxiliary layer 20 compared in the case of only the upper magnetic layer 16. As the result, the saturation of magnetic flux near the zero point of the throat height can be prevented.
