A fluid level indicator for a storage battery (B) comprises a probe (F) connected to an electrical signalling circuit. The probe is disposed through the top of the battery (B) and positioned with the edge of its lower end at a predetermined level within a cell of the battery. The electrical circuit produces a signal when the fluid surface in the battery cell is at a level below the predetermined level and the probe is not in contact with the battery fluid (V). The probe (F) comprises an inner electrode (E) and an outer screen (S) isolated therefrom. The screen surrounds the electrode from its point of entry into the battery compartment such that a portion of electrode is schielded off while a lower end portion thereof is uncovered to be in contact with the battery fluid as long as the surface of said battery fluid is above the predetermined level. |
