Coating material, especially polyurethane, is projected against the pipe wall (3) from a mixer which moves along the inside of the pipe (2) and is supplied (10) from outside. A controller (6) regulates the thickness of the coating (11) by adjusting the material flow and the speed of the mixer along the pipe. An Independent claim is also included for application equipment travelling along the pipe supported on telescopic arms (28). The material (7) is projected from a rotating mixing and projecting head (14,15). Supply pipes (10) run along the inside of the pipe to external supply tanks (9,9') and the equipment is preferably computer controlled.
