The load breaker switch (1) has a main current path provided by a pivoted switch blade (2) and a cooperating contact (3) for each current phase, with a spring biasing the switch blade into the closed position. The switch blade contacts a contact surface of the contact during its closure movement and lies in contact with this surface over the full width of its end face in the fully closed position, the current path lying in the plane of the initial contact. An Independent claim for a contact for a MV load breaker switch is also included.
