An assembly separates petrol and oil from water, The assembly has a separation tank with an inlet and an outlet, and an intermediate tank which receives the separated light fluids via a height (N1) adjustable weir. The intermediate tank has an upper outlet releasing light fluids to a collection tank, and a lower outlet for water. A valve closes the upper outlet when the density of fluid in contact with the valve exceeds a given threshold value G, and/or the fluid surface level in the separation tank exceeds a given threshold value N3.
