Sewage enters primary aeration compartment 11 by pipe 15 and is aerated by diffuser 14. Liquid passes by weir 17 to settling compartment 12 with purified liquid discharged by pipe 22. Sludge is removed from the bottom of compartment 12 by circulation generated by diffuser 25. The sludge is drawn from the settling tank at low velocity and thus under settled conditions and is transferred back to the primary aeration compartment by air lift pump 27.</p> |
