The protective cover consists of a curved covering hood part (12) for the top end of the terminal shoot (10) consisting of three elastic holder-arms (14) resting against the trunk or terminal shoot of the planted sapling (11) and extend in the same direction. The cover has perforations in and a mesh wall. The holder arms are double the length at least of the diameter of the cover, and correspond to the length of a year's growth. The free ends (19) of the holder arms are curved or angled outwards and have prickles .
