摘要 1,176,103. Erecting cartons. FMC CORP. 28 Feb., 1968 [9 March, 1967], No. 9541/68. Heading B8C. Collapsed cartons C are releasably retained in a magazine 32, Fig. 10, whose wall 62 is adjustable to accommodate different size cartons, by a discharge window 40. The foremost carton C is pulled past the window 40 by a pivoted suction head 42, Fig. 19, and an overbend bar 212 overbends the carton to break the creases on an overbend plate 50. Whilst the carton C is pulled past the window 40, a projection 45 engages a tab 158 on the rear panel 46 of the carton to open it progressively from the bottom closure end BC to the top closure TC. The projection 45, as a result of the progressive opening of the carton C, causes the lower edge 48 of the carton to be inclined downwardly along its length less than 5 degrees to the horizontal. The overbend plate 50 is similarly inclined. The suction head 42 is pivoted on a shaft 184, Fig. 12, which is connected to a bellcrank 186, itself pivoted on a shaft 188. The bell-crank 186 is also pivoted, by means of an arm 192, to a pin 194, eccentrically mounted on a cam disc 196. A roller 204, which is journalled to a bell-crank 200, slides in a cam track 206, the other end of the bell-crank 200 being pivoted to a link 208, itself pivoted to the bell-crank 186. Movement of the bell-crank 186 causes the suction head 42, and hence the overbend bar 212, to rotate clockwise about shafts 184, 188 so effecting the breaking of the carton's creases on the overbend bar 50, Fig. 19. The magazine 32, Fig. 2, comprises a fixed wall 56 and the adjustable wall 62 which is slidable upon a fixed rod 66 and a lower rotatable rod 68 having four longitudinally spaced grooves (not shown) to engage the wall 62. The rod 68 is rotated by an indexable locking device 38 which allows the wall 62 to engage a selected groove for a selected carton size. A pusher 94, which may be latched in its upper position by a handle 101, as shown, to enable carton stacking, slides down the magazine on guide rods 96 which are secured to carriages 98, 100, themselves slidable on the rods 66, 68. To enable the pusher 94 to be retained midway between the walls 56, 62 when adjusting the wall 62, screws 110, 110a rotatable by a crank 112, have portions 114 with twice the pitch of portions 113. A break away device 140, Fig. 10, has a rotatable carton arresting bar 146 held by spring-loaded detents 154. Should a carton be accidentally returned to the window 40 by the suction head 42, the carton merely engages the bar 146 and overcomes the holding force of the detents 154, causing the bar to swing clockwise, so avoiding breakage of the windows 40 or the suction head 42.
