The end section (6) can be moved from a starting position by means of an actuator (7), into a position of contact with the filter plates (5), bringing filter plate seals into contact with sealing faces. The end section is then held on the anchor rods (4). A hydraulic unit with resilience presses the filter plates together, from the contact position, into the closed position. Preferred Features: Hydraulic unit and actuators are pressurized by the same fluid from the same pump. This fluid is also used during washing, drying and after-pressing stages. Greater forces operate during plate closure than during their advancement. The hydraulic unit is a closed ring bellows (9), centering on the filter plate axis. It rests partly in a supporting cylinder (13) and an inner cylinder (15). There is an intermediate section (21) between bellows and filter plate; it is a segmented ring. An inner pressure plate (19) moves on a roller, resting on the inner cylinder. The assembly is further detailed. It includes a retraction cylinder (24). A gripping system acting on the anchor rods is described. End section, inner pressure plate, outer plate, bearing section and filter plates are supported on horizontal support beams (8).
