An automotive automatic gear box has a torque converter with a torus of shortened axial length. The unit has a front cover which is linked to the engine crankshaft and is filled with hydraulic fluid. The cover enclosed three types of rotating components, an impeller, a turbine and a stator. These components are adapted by adjustment of their size and position to form an ultra-thin torus clutch assembly.
