WIDE AREA RADIO PAGING SYSTEM

A system for delivering page messages to paging units (18) over a wide area is provided through multiple transmission systems. The system has a controller (12) for routing page messages to each paging unit (18) through the transmission system (16) to which the paging unit (18) is registered in accordance with a database. Each transmission system (16) sends page messages received from the controller (12) to paging units (18), and periodically sends messages having a unique identifier for the transmission system. Each paging unit (18) receives system messages of at least one of the transmission systems (16) when located in that transmission systems coverage area.
