PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit the multiple-step screw conveyer type carbonization facility to be increased its filling rate up to about 70%, as the whole size of the facility is made compact. SOLUTION: This carbonization facility is constituted with screw conveyers that are made of a heat-resistant material and each equipped with the carbonizing screw pipe 3 having a plurality of exhausting elbows 26, the screw shaft 4, fins 5, the cover 6, the bearing 5, the sprocket 23, the gland packing 7 and the connection pipe 8 where the screw conveyers are linked vertically in multi- stages and mutually and the uppermost screw pipe has the inlet for the substance to be treated, while the lowermost screw pipe has the outlet 9 for the treated products. The above screw conveyers are arranged in a box which is made of a copper plate 1 lined by a refractory 2. A burner is installed to the lower side face of the box, plural intake air pipes are arranged on the lateral wall of a discharge elbow 26, and a smoke stack is provided in the ceiling part of the box. An inlet rotary valve 10 and a rotary diaphragm valve 11 are installed in the inlet and outlet of the carbonizing screw pipe 3, respectively, and packing 33 is provided between the box and the carbonizing screw pipe 3 for sealing.
