PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for halogenating a hydroxy compound using a readily handleable organic solvent scarcely affecting environments without accompanying decomposition in a halogenating reaction. SOLUTION: The characteristic of this method for producing a halogen compound having one or more groups represented by general formula III: O2CR1 R2CR3R4X (R1, R2, R3 and R4 denote each mutually independently hydrogen atom or a monovalent substituent group; X denotes a halogen atom) in the molecular structure comprises reacting a compound having at least one or more groups represented by general formula I: SO2CR1R2CR3R4OH (R1, R2, R3 and R4 denote each mutually independently hydrogen atom or a monovalent substituent group) in the molecular structure with a halogenating agent in an organic solvent represented by general formula II: R5OCOOR6 (R5 and R6 denote each mutually independently an alkyl group). |
