PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a deodorant which can be easily handled and which suppresses production of hydrogen sulfide and mercaptan for a long time with a small amt. of the deodorant chemical for both of sludge as produced and its dehydrated cake by incorporating a metal salt which produces a hardly- soluble sulfide and a hardly-soluble pyrithione compd. SOLUTION: The metal salt which produces a hardly-soluble sulfide reacts with sulfide ion such as hydrogen sulfide and is zinc salt, copper slat, nickel salt or the like. The hardly-soluble pyrithione compd. to be used together is a hardly-soluble compd. derived from pyrithione or its dimer. By adding the metal salt component, most of the hydrogen sulfide in the sludge can be precipitated as a hardly-soluble compd. The pyrithione compd. component acts as bacteriostatic agent as well as a fixing agent for hydrogen sulfide and mercaptan. By using both components, the use amt. of the chemical can be decreased, the obtd. deodorant is easily handled, and dehydration treatment and deodorization treatment of sludge can be effectively performed.
