1,208,144. Hydration of olefins. RHEINPREUSSEN A.G. 23 May, 1968 [14 June, 1967], No. 24719/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3] Alcohols and ethers are produced by direct hydration of olefins in the presence of a sulphonic acid cation exchange resin, in which the sulphonic acid groups are bound to non- aromatic carbon atoms, as a catalyst. In the example propylene is hydrated in the presence of (a) a copolymer of methyl isopropenyl ketone with 8% divinyl benzene, treated with H 2 S and oxidized with H 2 O 2 or (b) a reaction product of 4 mols vinyl sulphonic acid and 1 mol divinyl benzene, as catalysts under various conditions of temperature and pressure. |
