PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound having a strong antifungal activity, having low cytotoxicity against animal cells, capable of being easily and industrially produced in a large amount and useful as an antifungal agent. SOLUTION: A compound of formula I [R1, R2 are each OCH3 or OH; R3 is CH(CH3)2, C(CH3)=CH2 or the like], for example, a compound of formula II. The above compound is obtained by culturing Cystobacter fuscus; FERM P-15997, a myxobacterium belonging to the genus Cystobacter, in a culture medium at pH 6-9 at 10-38 deg.C for about 3-5 days to produce and accumulate the compound, and subsequently collecting the compound from the culture product. The compound has physicochemical properties comprising an appearance: a colorless powdery substance, an angle of rotation: [α]23D+145, etc., and is preferably administered at a dose of 0.1-100 mg to a human.
