PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To judge a misfire of a cylinder accuretely in an internal combustion engine, even if the number of a rotation signal outputted per one rotation of the crank shaft of an internal combustion engine is an odd number. SOLUTION: The angular velocity between prescribed crank angles in front cylinders (#1 cylinder, #4 cylinder) which is cylinder group in which the rotation signal at TDC(top dead center) is obtained directly based on the ring gear signal of the odd number per one rotation of the crank shaft 2 at every prescribed crank angle outputted from a magnetic sensor 4 confronting to the ring gear 3a by the CPU 11 in an ECU 10 or back cylinders (#3 cylinder, #2 cylinder) which is cylinder group in which the rotation signal at TDC is not obtained directly is measured separately. A misfire judge level for the front cylinder or back cylinder is set separately. The misfire of the cylinder in an internal combustion engine 1 is judged accurately by the comparison of a big/ small relation between the angular velocity change amount based on the angular velocity and the corresponding misfire judge level.
