PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a writing instrument scarcely fatiguing a user even at the time of writing for a long time by increasing a sense of stability at the time of holding a writing barrel. SOLUTION: A writing barrel 12 has a hard part 20 made on its surface of a hard material, and a soft part 22 made of a soft elastic material. The part 22 has a finger tip support site 12a with which tips of a thumb, an index finger and a middle finger are brought into contact when a writer grasps the barrel 12 and a finger space support site 12b between the thumb and the index finger with which the space is brought into contact to couple the sites 12a, 12b. The site 12b is provided at a position in which its center is isolated at substantially 180 degrees as seen in a circumferential direction of the clip 16, an operating part 14 and the barrel 12, that is, substantially opposed positions, and a protrusion and recess part of many lateral ribs are formed on the surface.
